I recently installed update KB4517211 (OS Build 18362.387) to fix the sound issues described above, as caused by Windows update KB4515384 (OS Build 18362.356). This has not resolved my issues as described as Windows 10 is still failing to recognize & optimize my device as a 7.1 audio device. To configure the right device follow the steps below: a. Open Control Panel and select Sound. When the Sound dialog appears click the Playback tab. Verify if the speakers and the right sound card listed under playback devices. If so, right click on the sound device and click on default playback device.
Skyrim Error No Sound Device Detected
I was playing Skyrim earlier today when my computer locked up on me (this happens from time to time, my video card over heats and I've just been too lazy to buy a new one that isn't a piece of junk). I had to hold down the power button to boot it back up and when I got back to my desktop none of my programs would play sound. I heard system sounds just fine and I could test my headphones from the control panel just fine also. I found out that none of the programs I boot are being put into my audio mixer and when trying to boot up Skyrim again it gave me this message 'No sound device detected. Skyrim cannot run'.
